Elephant Family

Inland Homes is proud to be supporting Elephant Family, the UK's biggest funder for the endangered Asian elephant.

IN THE PAST 100 YEARS 90% OF THE WORLD’S ASIAN ELEPHANTS HAVE DISAPPEARED
Elephant Family exists to save this iconic animal from extinction in the wild, along with tigers, orangutans and all the other animals who share their habitat. Working with local people and partnering non-governmental organisations, Elephant Family currently fund 12 projects across Asia and invest where it is needed most to protect habitat, prevent conflict and reconnect the forest homes of the endangered Asian elephant.

IN ANOTHER 30 YEARS THEY COULD EASILY VANISH ALTOGETHER
Since Elephant Family launched in 2002 they have invested £4 million in securing and restoring vital corridors of land, supported local communities to reduce incidents of human elephant conflict and improving the welfare of captive elephants

THEY ARE SIMPLY RUNNING OUT OF SPACE AND TIME

Make-A-Wish

Since Inland Homes was founded it has been involved with a number of charities. In particular the Make-A-Wish Foundation which grants wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses. Inland Homes makes regular donations to Make-A-Wish and attends their fundraising events.

Variety Club Children's Charity

Inland Homes has also contributed generously in recent years to the Variety Club Children's Charity and on 4 June 2009 the Directors attended a presentation at which Frank Bruno presented a Sunshine Coach donated by Inland Homes to Headteacher Peter Skingley for the pupils of Hillcrest School.

Hillcrest School caters for 78 students aged 11–19 years with difficulties including autism, severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties and challenging behaviour.

Metropolitan Police Force

Since our purchase of RAF West Drayton, the Metropolitan Police Force has been using the site on a regular basis for police dog training without charge. We believe this has benefits for both parties, as we have a regular police onsite presence and the Dog Support Unit (DSU) gets a secure 31 acre site with a variety of different buildings and open spaces to carry out different training exercises close to London, free from interruption.

The role of the DSU is to provide police dog and handler teams to support the Metropolitan Police force across London and to respond to emergency calls where their unique skills can be used to help make London safer.

The dogs and handlers have a variety of skills and training is very intense. The Dog Support Unit (DSU) train for the following on our site:

  • searching for suspects and missing people;
  • locating objects dropped or concealed during a criminal incident;
  • following a track left by a person on the ground;
  • chasing and detaining a person who runs away when challenged to stop;
  • disarming violent armed suspects and controlling hostile crowds; and
  • supporting Firearms Teams.
All of these things are done under the strict control of the handler.

Berkshire Search and Rescue Dogs

Since our purchase of RAF West Drayton, Berkshire Search and Rescue Dogs (Berkshire SAR Dogs) has also been using the site for training exercises free of charge.

Berkshire SAR Dogs is a volunteer dog organisation on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist search and rescue teams, the police and other emergency services. Their primary role is to assist in locating lost or missing vulnerable people within Berkshire and its surrounding areas. Berkshire SAR Dogs is a registered charity and entirely reliant on sponsorship and donations to exist and carry out its work.

The team is made up entirely of volunteers who (together with their dogs) undergo constant training and RAF West Drayton is ideal for their rigorous training programme as it accommodates a variety of different buildings and large open spaces to simulate real life scenarios.

Glenister Youth FC

Apart from charities, Inland Homes believes it is important to put something back into the local communities it is involved in. Inland Homes came across Glenister Youth FC in 2006 whilst working on a site in Middlesex. They had around 25 children playing for them on a dilapidated pitch with no toilet or changing facilities. Inland Homes agreed to sponsor three new pitches for them to move to with excellent facilities, as well as sponsoring their kits and providing the children and staff with new jackets.

Since Inland Homes's involvement Glenister has thrived, with their numbers more than doubling to around 70 children within its ranks.
